VerbundFDB (German Network of Educational Research Data)

The portal of the Association for Research Data Education (VerbundFDB) lists research data and survey instruments from the field of empirical educational research. Research data and survey instruments from around 1000 quantitative and qualitative studies are listed there, and the collection is continuously being expanded.

Survey data, data from competency measures, tests and scales, videos of school lessons, protocols, audio data, transcripts, and more can be found. The available data span all educational sectors: from early childhood education to school and higher education research to adult education.

The data can be used for own research projects or teaching.

Access to the data takes place at the respective Research Data Centres. Access is possible either directly or after registration or application – depending on the anonymity and sensitivity of the data.

Anyone wishing to share research data from the field of empirical educational research can do so. The portal offers researchers a central point of contact for submitting data to the various research data centres (RDC) active in the field of educational research. It is hosted by VerbundFDB.

The incoming data is then forwarded to an RDC with relevant expertise for this data type. This ensures that the data receives adequate and high-quality curation.

Prerequisites for data ingest: Data are included that fit into the Collection Policy of the VerbundFDB and the responsible RDCs. These are data from the field of educational research that have potential for subsequent use and meet the necessary legal, technical, and documentary requirements. Click here for more information.

Curation of data: Curation of data via an RDC in the VerbundFDB is usually free of charge. As part of the curation process, the data centres offer a number of services, such as assigning a digital object identifier (DOI) or documenting the data with standardized metadata. Subsequent user support is also provided by the FDZ. Information on this can be found in the Service Policy (geman only).

In the Verbund Forschungsdaten Bildung (VerbundFDB), research data centers (RDC) and institutions from the field of educational research work together to provide an attractive and high-quality range of research data for empirical educational research. Via the portal www.forschungsdaten-bildung.de, researchers can share data, find research data for subsequent use, and obtain comprehensive information on the topic of research data management. In addition, consulting and training services are offered.

The participating institutions and RDCs regularly exchange information and collaborate on various topics to continuously improve their services. These include common data curation standards, joint events to promote reuse, and the Stamp. Find out about current and past activities here.
