The importance of a solid basis of data for both public policy and the social and economic sciences is indisputable. Today, empirical research is essential to finding solutions to many major challenges our societies face, be it environmental change, turbulent financial markets, or population growth.
The two-volume English publication contains the recommendations of the German Data Forum (RatSWD) concerning the continuous development of the research infrastructure for the social, behavioral and economic sciences.
These recommendations were derived from the discussion of 68 advisory reports, which constitute the second part of this publication. They reflect the current status of the debate over design and further development of an internationally competitive and innovative research infrastructure for the social, behavioral and economic sciences in Germany. As such, the publication is aimed at representatives from science and science policy, as well as policy-makers and research funders.
The recommendations chapter from “Building on Progress” is available as a separate publication.
