Parliamentary breakfast on the Research Data Act
On 9 October 2024, the German Data Forum's parliamentary breakfast on the Research Data Act took place in the Bundestag.
On Wednesday, 9 October 2024, the German Data Forum hosted a parliamentary breakfast on the Research Data Act under the patronage of Dr. Anna Christmann, Member of the German Bundestag (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen). The event brought together experts, members of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment and the Committee on Digital Affairs to discuss the importance of the Research Data Act (FDG) provided for in the coalition agreement.
Vice Chair Prof. Dr. Kerstin Schneider gave a keynote speech for the German Data Forum (RatSWD). She emphasised the need for an improved data infrastructure in order to ensure evidence-based policy advice. The key points of the Research Data Act, which were published in spring, and its potential impact on Germany as a centre of science were discussed. The participants had the opportunity to share their perspectives, ask questions and discuss best practices for the implementation of an effective research data law. The topic of data linkage received particular attention.
The breakfast provided a valuable platform for dialogue between politics and science to shed light on the opportunities of a research data law and create a basis for future cooperation. The members of parliament in attendance showed commitment and interest in taking the interests of science into account in the legislation and giving the project political tailwind.
We would like to thank all participants for their contributions and the stimulating dialogue and look forward to the next steps in the implementation of the Research Data Act.
