How to start a Research Data Centre?
Accessibility of research data is currently a central topic of science policy. The German government, for example, recommends in its data strategy, among other measures, the reinforcement of research data centers (RDC). This handout is intended to provide an initial insight into the tasks and the structures of research data centers.
There are some differences between research data centers, for example in the types of data offered or the amount of users. However, all data centers must fulfill certain tasks in order to offer user-friendly access to sensitive data. Based on the experiences of the research data centers that have been accredited by the German Data Forum since 2001, this handout presents the central organizational structures and functions.
