RatSWD commentary on the report by the Commission on Statistics for the Future
The Commission on Future Statistics (KomZS) was set up by the Federal Statistical Office in 2022 and presented a final report on 16 January 2024. The report formulates recommendations for the reform and modernisation of official statistics in Germany in order to make them fit for the future. The German Data Forum (Rat für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsdaten, RatSWD) was represented in the KomZS by its two chairpersons and has summarised the key points from the perspective of social and economic sciences in a separately published commentary:
- Establishment of a central information point that acts as a national data steward and provides a comprehensive data catalogue
- Establishment of a microdata centre as a fiduciary body and interoperability platform
- Establishment of the operation of federal and state research data centres as a statutory task of official statistics
