EOSC Coffee Lectures

A webinar series on the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), objectives, future prospects and opportunities for participation

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a pioneering initiative that aims to create an inclusive and open space for the exchange and use of research data in Europe.

Three free EOSC Coffee Lectures organised by the ZBW will provide clarity on what the EOSC is and what it is not, present the current status and relevant developments related to the EOSC and show how to get involved in EOSC activities.

The EOSC Coffee Lectures invite everyone who deals with research data in their scientific work or is involved in the implementation and operation of research data infrastructures.

The Coffee Lectures will be held by Prof. Dr. Klaus Tochtermann. Prof. Dr. Klaus Tochtermann is a member of the Board of Directors of the EOSC Association (EOSC-A) and is also involved in several NFDI consortia and a member of the NFDI Senate.

About the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC):

The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a pioneering initiative that aims to create an inclusive and open space for the exchange and use of research data in Europe. The aim of the EOSC is to create a ‘Web of FAIR Data and Services’ for science in Europe.

EOSC will be a multidisciplinary socio-technological infrastructure where researchers can publish, find and reuse data, tools and services to better perform their work.

EOSC builds on existing infrastructures and services supported by the European Commission, Member States and research communities. It brings these together in a federated “system of systems” and creates added value by pooling content and enabling the sharing of services.

EOSC will improve the situation for researchers in many ways, namely by:

  • Improving scientific research by providing access to a wealth of data and research results from different fields and institutions.
  • Promoting innovation by facilitating exchange, collaboration and building on the work of other researchers.
  • Improving transparency and reproducibility of research by making data and methods more open and accessible.
  • Reducing data silos and duplication of effort by promoting data sharing and reuse.
  • Facilitating interdisciplinary research and cross-sector collaboration by making data and resources from different fields more accessible.
