Working group effort and costs

The "effort and costs" working group deals with the effort and costs incurred in research data centers (RDCs) when curating research data for reuse.

The working group “effort and costs” aims to collect and describe the various dimensions of the effort involved in the curation of research data for secondary use in research data centers (RDCs). The heterogeneity of RDCs, which is reflected in their discipline-, topic- and method-specificity as well as in the scientific curation, archiving and preparation of data sets for subsequent scientific use, is taken into account.

The information gathered from the exchange of experience should help RDCs that are themselves interested in effort assessments and associated cost estimates to identify key aspects. In addition, the steps and resources associated with the preparation of research data for reuse are to be made transparent to data providers and research funders.

  • Format: Working group of the Committee for Research Data Infrastructures (FDI Committee) of the German Data Forum (RatSWD)
  • Objective: Inventory and creation of a systematic overview of expenditure and expenditure-related costs in RDCs
  • Output: Publication of a RatSWD working paper
  • Timeframe: Start Summer 2022
